Metronomy – The Look

13 Jul

This morning I had to borrow my mothers car to get to work. Usually when I know I will be using her car, I’ll grab my headphone cable to hook up to her AUX plug so I don’t have to bother with the radio, because I HATE the radio (thats another story). Well I was rushed this morning and forgot my cable. But she has a Sirius XM hook up in the car so I decided to flip through and see if paid radio was any better. Boy was I surprised when the first song I heard was The Look by Metronomy.

I was only able to catch the last 45 seconds to a minute of the song so the first thing I did when I got to work was to look up Metronomy and listen to the full song. Well this lead me to their April release The English Riviera that I have been jamming out to all morning. Its amazing how something so simply as forgetting a cable has now lead me to a band I don’t think I otherwise would have been exposed to.

I’m The One For You – The Royal Concept

11 Jul

I have this thing where I will hear a band and then instantly forget where I heard them from. The Royal Concept is the latest band to be added to that list. I really don’t know much other than they are from Sweden, which instantly made me think “But baby we’re in Sweden, how did you get to Sweden?”

Back to the point, The Royal Concept have a brand new Self Titled debut EP out on Universal Republic Records. It reminds me a lot of the band Phoenix with the same sort of indie/pop/dance friendly sounds.

You can stream the EP below and pick it up for around 5 dollars from iTunes, or through sound cloud.

Noisetrade.com Free Summer Sampler

4 Jul

I must have missed the press release stating that the first week of July is when all the Summer Samplers are released because I’ve got another brand new one for you.

This 33 song release comes from our friends at Noisetrade.com. They are a great source of new artists, as well as artists looking for a different method of releasing material. Almost all of the albums on Noisetrade are on a pay-what-you-want scale where you can pay 9 dollars for an album, or you can download it for free.

All you need to do is Like the NoiseTrade Facebook page to get this free 33 song Sampler. A fair trade if I’ve ever seen one.

Download Stereogum’s Cruel Summer Mixtape

3 Jul

Remember earlier today when I was talking about record labels releasing sampler albums? Or when I was saying the best thing for a 4th of July party is to get a good mix of songs and press play? Well Stereogum has you covered.

They have thrown together a two part Cruel Summer Mixtape that features 36 great tracks that will fill out an empty iTunes collection rather quickly.

There is a great selection for everyone on this mixtape, everything from Diplo to Tanlines. You can head to the Stereogum website to pick up the two volume mixtape for free. Check out the track list after the jump. Enjoy and share the love.  [...]

One Blind Whistle-Blower – 2F Mashup

30 Jun

My favourite album of all time is Third Eye Blind Self Titled. Every single song on that album is amazing, I have bought the CD three separate times and it was worth it each and every time.

So when I was scanning the email inbox and saw a Two Friends mashup that featured Jumper from Third Eye Blind I couldn’t fire a post together quick enough.

This track takes the best elements from three separate songs and puts them together perfectly.

Stream the track below and then download it for free. If you like what you hear check out more on the Two Friends Facebook page.

Whale Tooth – One Bite Will Bring Me To My Knees

29 Jun

It appears July 10th is going to be a busy day for me. Just like Saint Motel, Whale Tooth are set to release Search Party, a brand new 8 track LP.

Their first single is called Wolves, and I promise that is the only other animal reference on the album, but from what I’ve heard of Search Party, we are all going to be blown away.

Whale Tooth made waves with their 2009 Self-Titled EP and I’ve had Sleepwalking and 6 Billion, (my two favourite songs from the EP) on constant repeat to prepare myself for the new album.

If you are interested in Indie Pop/Rock, you’d be hard pressed to find something as refreshing as Whale Tooth. Check out the video for their first single Wolves below and hit the jump to check out 6 Billion and Sleepwalking.

Puzzle Pieces – Saint Motel

29 Jun

Saint Motel have really been teasing me lately. I stumbled across their tune Puzzle Pieces and could barely wait to go home and pick up their album.

Unfortunately their debut album hasn’t even been released yet! But we are getting close. Voyeur is set to drop on July 10th both digitally and physically on CD and 12 inch vinyl.

To be honest the piano and drum intro hit me hard but the smooth vocals had me sold within the first 30 seconds. I’m also especially fond of the stuttering vocal patterns.

Check out Puzzle Pieces below, as well as the latest single to be released, Benny Goodman. Click on Read More to check out the upcoming dates for their summer tour.

Lil Jon Ft. LMFAO- Drink (Extended Mix)

18 Feb

Saturday night festivities need Saturday night tunes.

Like it or not LMFAO have been at the forefront of providing us with the crowd pleasing, dance floor filling, sing a long hits that have been fuelling our weekends since Party Rock was released back in ’08.

They once again team up with Lil Jon for a follow up to Shots that is equally as simplistic and effective.

Beyoncé – End Of Time (The Dirty Tees Remix)

16 Feb

Following the career of The Dirty Tees has been one of the cooler backseat experiences I’ve had since starting this blog.

The guys have always been super talented and as their releases increased people started to take notice. Originally hailing from Oakville, Ontario the duo produced a remix of Natasha Bedingfield’s ‘Touch’ among other things in their first year. The track led to huge internet buzz and the songstress reached out to the guys. Suddenly they found themselves flying out to LA to work on some tracks with her and pursue a full time career in music.

Flash forward a year and they are on the verge of taking things to the next level. A win in the Beyoncé remix competition would really help and with your vote we can make this happen.

Listen to their remix below and if you’re feeling it, go Vote and watch as one of Canada’s most exciting acts blows up.

Timbaland ft. Pitbull- Pass At Me (Tim Mason Remix)

18 Nov

Usually the mention of Pitbull makes my ears retract into my head and my hand immediately search for the radio dial but Tim Mason has made the unexpectable possible.

He transformed this top 40 hit into a club banger with his usual high energy driving basslines and tantalizing buildups. Another beauty to add to the weekend set list.

Go Buy Winter Forever – Seahaven

8 Nov

A lot of albums were released today, and a couple big ones leaked yesterday. But I think you should move all of those to the back burner and check out Seahaven. Their debut LP Winter Forever was released today and it has me blowing off those other new releases to get my pop punk fill.

This isn’t your regular fast paced pop punk. The melodies and guitar lines are similar but the vocals are slower and remind me a lot of The Junior Varsity (which is a HUGE compliment in my books).

You can stream Winter Forever below and if you like what you hear you should buy this record. On Seahaven’s Bandcamp page there are a couple package options, even one that features vinyl for all those purists out there.

Kings of Pop Punk – The Fresh Clothing Mixtape

8 Nov

Back in January, we brought you the Fresh Clothing Winter Mixtape that was jam packed with great bands and great tunes. It exposed me to the song Something Personal by Bright and Early that has stayed in my weekly rotation for going on eleven months now.

Well last week Fresh Clothing released another free mixtape. Kings of Pop Punk Mixtape features The Wonder Years, Title Fight and Transit just to name a few. This mixtape might have a better track list than the Winter tape which I loved so much.

You can stream the mixtape below as well you can download it for free. Enjoy and discover some new pop punk band.

Go Buy Neighbourhoods – Blink 182

27 Sep

So it’s Tuesday and that means that brand new music has hit the record stores. Now I think its quite obvious that the Go Buy album of the week is Blink 182′s Neighbourhoods. Their first album in eight years, and it is really the culmination of all the crazy things that have happened since their Self-Titled album was released in 2003.

Blink broke up, started other bands, fought publicly, produced, and almost died. But despite this they have buried the hatchet and come back with an outstanding album that sounds exactly what you would expect Blink 182 to sound like in 2011. The fart and poop jokes are gone and a more mature sound has emerged.

The first thing I picked up on was how much it sounds like Angels and Airwaves meets +44, which ironically is exactly what has happened. The original reason they went on hiatus was that Tom wanted some time off to do his own thing and expand with a different sound. Mark and Travis eventually did the same thing. Now that they are recording again it sounds as though they have made a compromise and put the sounds together to make something amazing.

There are some standout tracks on the album, including Natives, After Midnight, and MH 4.18.2011. Also you have to listen to the Hearts All Gone and the Interlude that leads into the track. It’s hard to explain but the whole album just works. It’s all I’ve been listening to for the last week (yes I got an advanced copy) and I love it more each time I hear the album.

Stream Natives and MH 4.18.2011 below and go out and buy this album. Just do it

Best Music Video I’ve Seen In A Long Time – Fireworks – Arrows

23 Sep

This video is just plain awesome. Pinata people being chased by a crazy arrow carrying murderer. Vomiting and bleeding candy. What a great concept. The song that goes along with the video is really great as well. Arrows comes off the new Fireworks album Gospels which is now available from iTunes or your local record establishment. Check out the video above and convince your friends that a pinata is a must for your next party.

Stream And Download A New Man Overboard Track – Spunn

17 Sep

Man Overboard are set to release a new self-titled album on September 27th. They just released a new song stream and download of a song off the album. Spunn is the first track I’ve heard off the album and I really like it. It was produced by Steve from New Found Glory and has that early 2000′s pop punk feel.

You can click here to head to the Lost Tapes store to download this song for free. The download also comes with a guitar tab sheet, a lyric sheet and wallpapers for your computer and cell phone. Which is a pretty good deal if you ask me. If you like what you hear you should check Man Overboard out on tour this fall in support of New Found Glory on the Pop Punks Not Dead Tour. I Really Thought I’d Posted The Hotel Year Earlier

15 Sep

I got an email today informing me that The Hotel Year had signed to Mightier Than Sword records and I knew that a post was in order. I have originally listened to The Hotel Year earlier in the year when I picked up It Never Goes Out from Bandcamp.

So when I went to write this post I searched for the post I had done when I originally heard the 9 song LP. But there was no post to be found. The album, along with the We Are Alone EP were in my iTunes but I guess I had never got around to giving them a post. Because of this I must send my apologies to our readers for not fulfilling my blogger duty to pass along the best new music as I find it.

Regardless Mightier Than Sword have decided to digitally reissue It Never Goes Out on October 11th. But until then you can stream the album below from their Bandcamp page. Enjoy.
